Maths is an essential element of everyday life, which has been developed by different cultures and its importance is univeresally recognised. Maths is a vital component of communication, understanding of the world and problem solving. Maths enables our children to develop logical reasoning, problem-solving skills, creativity, abstract thinking, flexibility and initiative.

At the end of our children's primary education we aim that they will be able to:
*utilise and apply maths in practical activities, in real-life situations and in the context of work on number, calculations, data handling, measures, shape and space.
*grasp an intrinsic fascination of the subject and to perceive its role in the analysis and communication of information.
*reason and explain orally, utilising correct mathematical terminology.
*consolidate and improve their competence in numeracy, and
*show progress across each area of the programme of study for mathematics.

In order to fulfil our aims our children will be taught and encouraged to,
*apply computation skills quickly in real, practical situations.
*understand key mathematical concepts and recall key facts quickly and accuratley.
*reason and explain their work logically
*become fluent in number, both in mental and written calculations.
*use mathematical diagrams, graphs and notation effectively to communicate findings and ideas to others.
*interpret statistical information correctly
*choose suitable techniques to solve problems
*use maths systematically to explore
within unfamiliar contexts
*justify and prove results accurately; and
*complete tasks and suitably organise their work well.
