As a Fairtrade school we are trying to guarantee a better deal for Third World producers and to stop child labour in these countries. We were the first school in the Vale to sign up as a Fairtrade school so we can apply for the Fairtrade status. We have had a whole school introductory talk about Fairtrade, what it means and how we can help. We have a committee already working on ways to raise awareness. We use Fairtrade products in our staff room and at events where tea and coffee is available. They were served at our recent School Open Day. Recently we had a Fairtrade Teddy Bears picnic for our Infants department and Wick Playgroup. All the fruit and juice was Fairtrade. This event was a huge success. Two members of our school were invited to the first South Wales Fairtrade conference. They were able to with the help of a live link, talk to children in a school in Ghana . What a fabulous opportunity it was!
